Off to Mt Eliza after a good win against Chelsea minus a few of our more senior players. We went into the game full of confidence after a good week on the track and started well. The game was close early until an avalanche of Mount Eliza goals (7 in 12 minutes) to close out the first half saw us go into the main change 10 goal down and basically game over. The second half we showed some character and fought it out with the margin being similar at the final siren. Kalen Bird fresh off 9 goals in the under 19’s came in and had an immediate impact, Jackson Calder showed why he is a leader at the club showing tireless work rate all day, Dale Whelan enjoyed his role reversal down back and Warwick Miller continues to have an exceptional year.

Big Sunday game against traditional rivals Mt Eliza confronted the Reserves. With Mt Eliza on top of the ladder it was always going to be a difficult day but to the boys credit they fought as hard as they could and for as long as they could but by the end of the game the boys were exhausted. As a Coach I want win every game but I could not of been prouder the way the boys tuffed it out to the end.

To the boys of the under 19s that gave us a chop out today well done and thank you and to my boys also, well done!  We may not win many games but we never give up.

Mt Eliza were always going to be a tough opponent for our young side. We started strongly running well but couldn’t convert the effort into scores. The opposition were strong for four quarters and whilst we sustained our physical attack on the ball with some good individual efforts, overall we were unable to hit our targets or play our brand of footy. Despite injuries on the day players responded with a spirited contest to the end. I was so impressed with Lachie Hewitt, Gus Turner, Luke Ambler, Bailey Westbrook, Jack Wells & Luke O’Conner who stepped up and saw a need in the seconds, and went on to play another 4 quarters, despite being absolutely exhausted after their own match. It shows a really good club ethic is developing.

A big congrats to all the D grade players last week.  Only went down to the second top team by 2 goals – who would have thought? Bianca, Bec T and Steph were wonderful in goals, Hayley, Mel, Ainslie and Bec B controlled the mid court and Sophie, Pippa and Bianca in the last half were relentless in defence.  Next week is ours.

C’s had a struggle especially when Bec T went off with an ankle injury. Players doubling up from D in Bianca, Bec B, Sophie and Steph worked their guts out but the Mounties were a well drilled side.

Showpiece of the day was the skilful display by Brittany in B grade. For a player that has just started playing netball this year she was doing role offs at GS, holding strongly, snatching in any loose ball and shooting accurately. All whilst keeping her composure whilst being physically defended by the GK. In a high scoring affair we were able to complete numerous turnovers in defence with Mercurial Michelle (coach) throwing on the uniform.

The opposite occurred in A grade. In a low scoring affair it was the mid court of both teams that created intercepts and turnovers.  Alex set us up in the first half with her rebounding prowess at GK. Highlights include Katey winning her Toss Up and Candace with her long leg splits and feed outs in goals. Our last quarter penalties hurt us and let the Red Legs get a sniff but we held our own and took the 4 points.

Hopefully with all our players back this week we can put in a good performance next week
