We played Edithvale at home this weekend in another game against a top 5 side. The boys started well against a very physical Edithvale side to see us trail by a point at the first break. The second quarter saw us hit our straps and moving the ball quickly down to our forward line where Dale Whelan was causing carnage. Dale finished the first half with 5 goals and made a mess of anyone who chose to stand in the hole in front of him (3 Edithvale players couldn’t return after half time, all fairly, of course). 6 goals to 1 in the second and we were up by 30 points at the half and with Edithvale now under manned we were confident of finishing off the game. The second half turned into a bit of a grind but we ran out winner by 7 goals. Ryan O’Dell continued his fantastic form, Warrick Miller was again superb in the middle and Emilio Bitters shut down their most dangerous forward and had him moved to the backline after half time.  Great day for the club with the seconds winning as well, gaining some great momentum moving into 2017.

Saturday had arrived and feeling confident the boys could pull another win over Edi-Asp. From the first bounce the boys looked like they were up for the challenge, with Macca dominating in the ruck & our on ballers clearing it out of the centre & the forwards doing the job in front of goal. Everything was going to plan. One of the most pleasing aspects of our performance was the work done by the back six who are combining as one unit which is outstanding, the use of the ball and hand ball was fantastic. It was a great performance by every player. I hope all the boys are excited by the challenge we have this week against Langwarrin a real test of how far  we have Come since the start of the year. Spring like conditions greeted us on Saturday morning to take on Edi-Asp on our home track. Edi jumped us early and it wasn't until late in the first quarter that we were able to get our hands on the footy. The game then evened out from that point with us being able to string some good patches together but overall Edi-Asp were to strong on the day and deserved their win. Special mention to a couple of young boys in our team who played their first and second games on the weekend respectively, Jason and Jacob, welcome to both you and your families to the club. Both very talented boys who I'm sure will carve out long careers in the game. Well done boys.

It’s amazing what transpires throughout a netball season.  When we started the year off we had 45 players including 20 new to the Club and are now down to 32 with finals just around the corner.

At the start of the year we factored that our C grade would be in the mix but a number of injuries and player promotions changed all that.  As it turns out both the A’s and B’s are more likely to get into the finals. At the pointy end of the season we have 2 of our players going overseas and 3 with injuries that may not get back in time. Mid season we lost a few players but gained the services of Sophie and Ainslie.  Erica came back from Echuca and Katie and Bec P joined us.

With many of our players having work placements throughout the year or travelling we were short on numbers on numerous weeks. Injuries to Meg weakened our B defence lineup and saw games dropped which otherwise were winnable.

A change in our coaching staff has Deb Thorne taking over C grade and Corinna Horvath our D’s. Finally our C grade has got the mix right but all too late now.  Thanks to Suz Goodchap for her hard work early in the season.

We do need to recognise 5 ladies who have or will register their 50 games for the Club this year. Eliza played hers in R3, Chris in R4 and Caitlin in R7. All being well both Pippa and Gabby should register their 50th in Round 18.  Congrats ladies.

Now it’s time to finish off the season with our best efforts in all grades.
