The seniors played Pines this week in what can only be described as one of the most disappointing efforts by a Mornington side in recent history. Needing a win to stay in touch with the pack we didn’t give our supporters anything to cheer about. If it wasn’t for Warwick Miller and Troy Kirwan in defence it would’ve been even uglier. Mick McGowan tried hard all day in his first game for the year, but there were too few like him. Going down by an embarrassing 81 points, the bye weekend couldn’t come quick enough. Time to regroup and show some character.

With two wins and two losses it was a big game against the Pines who were on the same wins, the first quarter we kicked against the wind and seemed to struggled against a very good pines team and went into the first quarter down buy 4 goals .The rest of the day was a tug of war with Pines not extending the lead and we could not close the gap, but to our credit the boys kept on fighting all day so we look forward to a break and be ready to take on

A far more consistent performance this week had us playing well enough to take the points in a scrappy affair. Whilst we understood that our opponent has been struggling for numbers, the 18 boys that represented the Pines on the weekend came to play. Their ball movement early on was crisp and if not for several of their players running out of legs the result would have been a lot closer. To our credit we stuck to our game plan reasonable well and ran the game out. Congratulations to Josh for playing his first game with us on the weekend and a special mention and thank-you to Bailey Westbrook who topped up the Pines numbers

A GRADE
The A grade side started slowly against Pines but by half time exerted their dominance. Sarah Pike was a welcome inclusion to the team in goals while at the other end Jess Gordon really stepped up her defensive pressure. Carli Rickman and Sophie Baker stepped up to play their first stint in A grade for the season and fitted in superbly well. Britt Archdeacon was dominant in goals with a best on performance.

B GRADE
The B grade team made several errors early allowing Pines to get the jump on them. Carli Rickman came on in 2nd term to stem the flow of the Pines goalers. Charlotte Brown was solid in goals with a really accurate display of shooting. Laura Noonan was the standout, hard to stop through the defensive end and dictating play out of defence, showing her leasdership and patience in a BOC performance.

C GRADE
Another convincing win from the C girls. My best on today was Sarah, she played a full game in GD, not dropping the pace once which is a hard ask, countless tips and turnovers and a huge amount of pressure. As with the D girls, it really was a solid TEAM effort. We have quite a few young girls in our sides, and for some it’s their first year against bigger harder hitting bodies and that can be a little off putting. But the girls are certainly rising to the challenge, well done Demi who got that little bit tougher today and started to outsmart and stand strong against an older opponent. Great job Ainslie who played her first quarter with the c girls, coming up to rest legs of other centre court players.

D GRADE
Well what a game !! The girls came away with a solid win beating pines 46-18. A much better combined shooting percentage scoring the 46 out of 59 attempts, so well done goalers. Erica had her first game with the team for the year and what a solid performance, oozing confidence and scoring almost half of our goals. Erica was best on for me today, but her job was certainly made easy by the support of a strong centre court, well done ladies !! We had a huge turnover rate thanks to our defenders, a true TEAM effort.
